Imagine concrete that can survive wildfires, heal itself, and absorb carbon from the atmosphere. Thanks to a breakthrough by researchers at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, this may soon be reality.
Their new AI model, Allegro-FM, can simulate the behavior of billions of atoms at once, helping scientists design next-generation materials like carbon neutral concrete. This revolutionary concrete could dramatically reduce emissions, last for centuries, like ancient Roman concrete, and even become stronger by trapping CO₂ within its structure.

Built to run on the powerful Aurora supercomputer, Allegro-FM is 1,000 times more scalable than traditional simulations and can model interactions across 89 chemical elements. It gives researchers a virtual testing ground to explore new materials without the cost of physical trials.
